Dog Hobnobs At Lamest Hollywood Party Ever

>> Thursday, April 9, 2009

During the lean years between Petticoat Junction and Benji, Higgins the Dog starred in Mooch Goes To Hollywood, a 1971 TV movie about a dog navigating the pitfalls of Hollywood, guided by the disembodied voice of Zsa Zsa Gabor. Even weirder? It was written by Thurston Howell III.

In this scene, Mooch attends what may be the worst Hollywood party ever. This party isn't hip even by 1971 standards. The guests are all sub-Hollywood Squares, and the only food offered is the smushed potato chip that the horrifying Rose Marie digs out of her stained handbag. Mooch would have encountered many of the same people if he had simply wandered into the buffet line of the Wilshire Boulevard Luby's Cafeteria, or the waiting room of a reasonably-priced chiropractor in Palm Springs. And really Mooch, Jill St. John? Out of all these people, Jill St. John is the one that frightens you so badly you back into the pool? I mean, come on. You had Marty Allen right in your face.
