10 Dog Food Commercials That Taste Better Than Pate
>> Friday, May 8, 2009
According to a recent LA Times article, people can't tell the difference between pate and dog food. The American Association of Wine Economists, which you would think is the boringest association ever, actually held a taste test in which participants were given "duck liver mousse, pork liver pâté, two imitation pâtés -- pureed liverwurst and Spam -- and Newman's Own dog food." Only three out of eighteen volunteers correctly identified the dog food. That got us thinking, "Hey, let's put together a list of random YouTube dog food commercials. We'll call it 10 Dog Food Commercials That Taste Better Than Pate. Then we'll go get something to eat, because we're suddenly hungry for Spam pureed into a pastelike consistency."
Also: None of these commercials are better than Poochare'. Just sayin'.
10. Kibbles And Chunks
We find it odd that Charles Nelson Reilly has a dog who won't come out.
9. Tom Waits For Purina
Tom Waits doing a dog food commercial is no weirder than Tom Waits doing this:
8. Dog Drives Train
A dog driving a train! And we thought texting was a problem. Still, this ad is probably better than the remake of The Taking Of Pelham 123.
7. Bacon!
Yeah, yeah, we get it. Dogs don't know it's not bacon. Here's what else they don't know:
6. Foreign Countries Have Strange Marketing Strategies
"Hey! Let's sell our dog food using advertising laden with cruelty to animals!"
5. Ping Pong Dog
This is cute and all, but we here at Hey Look, Animals feel strongly that the only dog that should be allowed to play sports is Air Bud. (Okay, maybe dancing dogs.)
4. Snausages
"Snausage" is a funny word.
3. Dogs And Cats, Working Together
Q: What's the difference between this commercial and Home Alone? A: The leads of this commercial were never touched by Michael Jackson.
2. Gaines Burgers Taste Test
We did a similar taste test, and found that dogs who normally eat canned dog food really would eat Gaines Burgers! They were also found to eat dead birds, bum vomit, and their own feces. In short, dogs will eat anything. Also, the seventies were creepy.
1. 1974 Alpo Commercial
Looks like someone needs to take that dog to obedience school. AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE WIFE! No, seriously, this commercial is from an earlier time, when women could give a damn what their dogs ate and didn't believe in their husbands.
