Squirrel Jam: 12 Songs About Squirrels

>> Monday, June 1, 2009

Like most people, you probably spend a lot of time marveling at the sheer number of songs about squirrels on YouTube. You find yourself willing to listen to some YouTube squirrel songs, but the sheer numbers overwhelm you. "If only there were a handy list that distilled the punishing amount of YouTube squirrel songs down to about, I don't know, twelve," you whisper at night to your Lord. Well, God must have been listening, because we've done the dirty squirrel-work for you! Here you go, dear reader, our list of 12 Songs About Squirrels. Don't mention it. But you're on your own when it comes to songs about manatees.

12. "Squirrels, Squirrels, Squirrels"

If we were an animal, and we weren't immortalized in song by Parry Gripp, we'd probably kill ourselves.

11. "Squirrels"

From YouTuber jkim6260. YouTubers can't get enough of cute 'n' goofy Asian kids. It's one-stop shopping for pedophiles with an Asian kid fetish. Or, you know, people who just want to laugh. Also pedophiles.

10. Metal Squirrel

The most frightening of all squirrel songs. Points for that.

9. "Cat's Squirrel"

Seriously, who would you rather listen to-- Jethro Tull or those Asian guys at number 10? Yup, us too. Asian Guys At Number 10 FTW.

8. "Theme From Secret Squirrel"

No wonder baby boomers are so effed up.

7. "Squirrel In My House"

We chose this song by Kevancooke to represent all the poorly recorded, hard to understand, yet still charming squirrel songs on YouTube-- the ones that are basically just a list of what a squirrel did while dude was watching. If we'd included all of them, this list would be like 400 squirrel songs long. Why make you miserable too? We watch squirrel songs so you don't have to.

6. "Red Red Squirrel"

Is the girl supposed to be a squirrel? We're disturbed and confused. Congratulations, then, 36Hannah36! Judging by our reaction, you have made Art. (Also better than Jethro Tull.)

5. "Hey Mom! (The Squirrel Song)"

From YouTube user Marilyn Hewett. The song doesn't start until about 2:00 in. Too much setup for too little payoff? You be the judge. (Yes.)

4. "Squirrel Attack"

The Vlog Brothers are popular on YouTube, and frequently get other YouTubers to pitch in and make "collab" videos. (No amount of collaboration could help that Irish accent, however.) This is sort of like if "Weird Al" Yankovic were in The Pogues, which, now that we think of it, sounds awesome.

3. "Squirrels"

YouTube user SakuyasLove made a video for "Squirrels," a parody of the Beastie Boys "Girls" that was recorded by the Beastly Boys and is frequently played on The Dr. Demento Show. We wrote all that without research, using our own knowledge, because we are sad, old nerds who smell like a Goodwill.

2. "Mississippi Squirrel Revival"

Nobody rocks a beard like Ray Stevens. Scoff if you must, hipsters, but when the Ray Stevens comeback begins, we'll be riding shotgun and you guys will be in the back with all the other johnny-come-lately bandwagon-jumpers.

1. "The Stupid Squirrel Song"

Monzboy123, congratulations! You are funnier than Ray Stevens and more listenable than Jethro Tull. Those are compliments.

How can you possibly list squirrel videos without reference to a link to "Foamy," the squirrel with an attitude?

here's a link to the vault of Foamy amusement:

I just felt compelled to do my part to make sure your collection is complete.
